Greentag action continues apace

In partnership with the GreenCook project, Greentag has launched a food wastage awareness-raising campaign in northern France’s three E.Leclerc hypermarkets. This initiative provides an opportunity to make direct contact with the store’s customers and raise their awareness of food wastage issues.

Every year, every single French citizen throws out 20kg of food, of which 7kg is still packaged and unopened. What if we could reduce this waste ? As part of the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR), E.Leclerc in Templeuve and Wattrelos are targeting customers with in-store screenings of short films about food wastage reduction. Planned events include handing out ‘vegetable kits’ and ‘anti-wastage’ product demonstrations with smoothie and pudding tastings.

The European Week for Waste Reduction is aimed not only at businesses and the public, but also at national and local government departments. The aim is to raise awareness of the need to reduce current waste levels and suggest ways this can be achieved on an everyday basis in homes, offices and schools.

The idea for the EWWR is based on food waste prevention. It is crucial that we improve consumption and manufacturing practices by extending the life of products and by throwing less away. These being key issues for Greentag and the Green Committee, they organised manned stands for two days. The Green Committee deals with sustainable development issues and is made up of volunteer workers ; it aims to become the ambassador for the stores’ CSR projects.

Kitted out for waste reduction

Smoothies and juices are a great way to use up the stores’ large quantities of fruit. But what do we do with vegetables ? They can also be removed from shelves for aesthetic reasons. E.Leclerc have come up with a solution to this problem in the form of their ‘vegetable kits’, made up of ready-prepared vegetables for cooking. These contain seasonal vegetables which are perfect for home-made soup ! Kits provide around 1kg of vegetables, which is enough for 4 people. With the simple addition of 1-1.5L of water (depending on desired consistency) it can be transformed into soup.
